A Shame.

We all don’t like that one cupboard, or closet, or the paperwork that sit there, staring at us, laughing at us. Shouting at us that we’re always going to stay like this, that you don’t have the guts to throw any of us out. We’re ashamed.

Professional organisers say that shame is a root feeling for most of their clients. Shame is a feeling of being unworthy, bad or wrong, and it’s quite uncomfortable to experience. Shame is different from guilt or embarrassment, because shame involves negative views about yourself, and if you can’t resolve it can lead to anxiety, depression and low self-esteem!

Shame can stem from places you didn’t know and manifest itself into different avenues. If you’re feeling shame about that pile of unused clothes, it could actually be because you have shame about spending money. It’s hard to see this on your own, but a bit of mindfulness and a bit of digging into your psych may help. If it doesn’t that’s ok, but give it a go because you never know what next step it will help you make.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends or family, or a professional. No-one will judge you, they will be happy to help you and you can’t beat that feeling once it’s all decluttered.

After all, there’s no use in being ashamed about being ashamed…
