The Power of Plants.

Green is calming. It’s a well-known fact, and getting as much as green in our house, via plants, is so important to our wellbeing. I try to sneak in at least one plant if I’m decluttering someone’s house.

I never used to have plants, mainly because I was afraid of killing them, but then I discovered that actually, a lot of houseplants don’t need that much care.

I’m particularly fond of the Madagascar Dragon tree. It not only has a great name, but it doesn’t care if you forget about it. It sorts itself out and survives for years. The leaves are long and beautiful, almost imitating a miniature palm tree. Do note that the leaves are poisonous for cats and dogs.

Another favourite is cacti. Now they really don’t care if you don’t water them. They’ll sit there happily, spikily, and add a wonderful texture to your room. Just don’t try to catch them if they fall. Really. It hurts.

I’ve always wanted to plant herbs and I took the plunge the other week. I bought six metal tubs and six different types of herbs. I’m pleased to say they’re growing, all at different speeds though. Parsley is being a bit stubborn actually, if I get a magnifying glass, I believe I can see one shoot sprouting. You can do it parsley!! My aim to have them still alive in a year’s time…

In my kitchen I have mint and rosemary which both did well in the summer. I also have a spider plant which is looking very healthy, after almost dying in the heatwave this summer.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, if you think you’ll murder your plants, you’re wrong. Do it slowly, don’t buy too many at the same time, then once you build your confidence your

home will be ready to turn green.

Green really is a wonderful colour and here’s some words it’s associated with: Harmony, balance, refreshment, universal love, rest, restoration, reassurance, environmental awareness, equilibrium, peace.

Now who wouldn’t that in a home?
